CCLD Launches a New Adult Literacy Initiative
CCLD is excited to announce a new initiative focused on improving adult literacy throughout the Commonwealth. This new initiative was a focus for the Kentucky legislature in the most recent legislative session. Senator Brett Guthrie spearheaded securing this additional funding for this project working in a bi-partisan manner with Representative Jody Richards (D) and Senator Dan Kelly (R).
The additional funding will allow CCLD to provide direct oversight of the implementation and evaluation of four pilot projects serving adults reading at the below basic and basic levels. Research suggests how difficult it is to reach adult learners reading at this level. Hence, these pilot projects will embed new strategies for teaching reading highlighting the use of technology software designed for enhancing reading proficiency for adult learners.
Adult educators interested in participating in this endeavor should respond to the request for proposal (RFP) on this website or contact Dawn Hanzel at dawn.hanzel@uky.edu or by phone at 859-257-8195. Participation in this project is limited to Kentucky adult educators only and must meet the criteria outlined in the RFP.
CCLD would like to thank the Kentucky legislators for such an opportunity to expand its mission to raise literacy levels for all Kentuckians.
